Prior to setting up Total Construction Training Ian managed Training Centres for two of the country’s largest Plant Training Companies. He wanted, however, to improve upon the experiences of his customers and drive up the standards of Plant and Health & Safety training across the UK. He felt there was a clear need for a Plant Training provider which would offer good quality, open courses in all the most popular categories, whilst ensuring great value, competitive prices.

Ian wanted Total Construction Training to commit to;

• Ensuring regular open courses at convenient locations across the UK with great value, competitive prices.
• Providing knowledgeable members of staff with many years’ experience in Health & Safety Training who respond to enquiries & queries the same day.
•  Sending out joining instructions and pre course study material at the time of booking.
• Ensuring all Instructors are fully qualified to deliver the courses, with the knowledge and experience needed on that particular piece of plant.
• Course results being emailed the following day accompanied with an achievement letter or feedback if a course is not achieved.
• Certificates sent out as soon as a course has been completed and we have received this from the awarding bodies.

Stuart Quiney

Lead Instructor

Stuart has been in construction industry for over 35 years.

He  started driving all sorts of construction plant from excavators to dozers all over the UK then moved into supervision working from section foreman through to works manager on civil construction sites.

Due to a bereavement a few years ago he found he could not work away from home due to being a carer for his younger brother so went into training to try to give back some of what he has learnt over the years.

Stuart is a qualified tester to CPCS and NPORS Standards as well as being a qualified NVQ Assessor all the way to Level 7 Senior Site Manager.

He is currently studying for his IQA Qualification to sign off our NVQ’s and delivers the NPORS Instructor Courses to become a NPORS Tester

Scott Fulford

Instructor

Scott has over ten years experience as an Instructor – training most plant categories from Dozer to Counterbalance Forklift Truck. He is accredited to deliver training for NPORS, LANTRA, RTITB and ITSSAR as well as delivering the NVQ’s for Plant and Lifting Operations.

A very competent instructor who has spent the last few years delivering apprenticeship training for those just starting in the plant operations world.

Scott started off in the British Armed Forces where he has developed a comprehensive set of interpersonal skills and his love for training.

Benjamin Walker

Benjamin has been in the construction industry for over 15 years.

Starting off as a site worker and working his way up to plant operator.  He has extensive experience on most plant- Operating  360 Excavator, Telehandler, Dumper, Roller, Loading Shovel and Counterbalance Forklift on sites.

Loves to travel and took a two year gap to work and travel in Australia.

Benjamin has moved in to teaching and testing, as he enjoys helping others and wants to share his knowledge of driving and machinery.

He is a level 2 NVQ assessor and is now a fully qualified NPORS Tester!

Michael Rowlands

Instructor

Michael started off in the Timber industry operating forklifts and small tools before working his way up to General Manager of a Timber yard. He then progressed to working at Port of Milford Haven where he was HSE Advisor and PFSO, responsbible for ensuring all Health, Safety and Security objectives were achieved, both within the waterway and operational sites based around Pembrokeshire, from Operational Cargo Handling areas, Marina, Docks, Business and Retail Parks, Development Sites (Pre and during construction phases), Listed Buildings and General Office
departments/suites, tenanted and non-tenanted properties.

He has his Level 5 Diploma in Health and Safety, NEBOSH National Certificate in Health and Safety and TECH IOSH qualifications and runs all our CITB Site Safety Plus, IOSH and First Aid courses.

After the Covid shutdowns Michael decided on a career change and has joined us to pass on his years of experience running busy sites to new learners

Joe Pottinger

Instructor

He was first introduced to plant when he was around 10 years old and his interest in machines really peaked and has been the same ever since. He has always grown up arounds trucks and machines as he used to go to work with his dad at any chance he had even though it involved getting up at 3am and even staying out in the truck. The first time he operated a 360 excavator was when he was around 10ys and instantly loved it and would do it any chance he got using things like cranes, bulldozers/tractors, forklifts. As soon as he was old enough he got his ticket for the 360 excavator and has had the opportunity to work for some great companies in areas like demolition/civils/ working on the services and doing some proper machine operator stuff! He also passed the  test to become a Vacuum Excavator Operator and that was really exciting using a 510ph Mercedes to suck around the live services and other places people were not allowed to go.

“When the opportunity finally arose for me to be able to open amazing new doorways for other people like they did for himself I just had to take it to teach others on these great big bits of kit that I fell In love with so you can too!” – Joes own words.

So even though he is our youngest instructor he has a wealth of knowledge and experience and is now a fully qualified NPORS Tester and NVQ assessor up to Level 4 Supervisor

Thomas Jones

Instructor

Tom has many years experience as plant operator on numerous Groundworks projects over the years, operating 360 excavators, telescopic handlers, ride on rollers and forward tipping dumpers on housebuild and industrial sites.

Having gone through his Level 2 NVQ for Dumper and Roller he is used to being on the other side and is great with learners in helping them achieve.

He is qualifed NPORS Tester and NVQ assessor for most plant categories.

Gary Onions

Instructor

Gary comes to us with a wealth of experience in plant and machinery. Starting off over 25 years ago as as HGV Technician and moving into operating grab lorries for some of the largest Groundworks companies before progressing onto 360 Excavators, dumper and rollers whilst running his own Company for over 10 years.

Gary is NPORS Tester for most plant categories, along with NVQ assessor help progress learners to Blue Cards. He also delivers our Streetworks courses.
