CSCS cards provide proof that individuals working on construction sites have the required training and qualifications.
For contractors and clients the cards bring business benefits that help to improve on-site efficiency and cut costs.
There is a range of CSCS cards to reflect the varied occupations in construction.
Most contractors and construction clients insist that workers on their sites hold the appropriate CSCS card for the work they undertake. You can read more about some of them in the case studies section of the website.
CSCS is a not-for-profit limited company. Its directors are from employer organisations and unions representing the breadth of the industry.
The Scheme’s application processing and contact centre service is delivered under contract by CITB.
The Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS) provides a single skills card for the Plant Sector of the Construction and allied industries. It was launched in 2003 and since then over 280,000 cards have been issued across 60 categories of plant and related occupations. One of the schemes main successes is the CPCS Technical Test, delivered by CPCS Testers working through CPCS Test Centres. The Technical Test ensures independent assessment of an individuals operating ability and their underpinning knowledge on entry to the scheme. CPCS is recognised by the UK Contractors Group (UKCG) and Major House Builders Group as the preferred card to comply with codes of practice for competence and certification. Total Construction Training has access to CPCS Test centres nationwide offering CPCS Technical Tests in all the categories of plant covered by the CPCS scheme. We can also offer the NVQ assessments required to move from Red Trained Operator Card to Blue Competent Operators card.
Established in 1992, the National Plant Operators Registration Scheme is now one of the UK’s leading Accreditation and Registration Bodies, working across the Construction, Industrial, Utilities, Warehousing and Distribution, Agricultural, Ports and Marine sectors.
NPORS offers flexibility, whilst maintaining standards, both nationally and internationally by working with industry and Accredited Training Providers.
The role of CITB is to work with employers to encourage training, which helps to build a safe, professional and fully qualified workforce.
The support and funding provided by CITB helps companies to improve skills, increase their competitiveness and respond to challenges such as the low carbon agenda, reducing costs on site and recruiting the best talent for their sector.
