New Roads and Streetworks Operative Course

This NRSWA operatives course is designed for streetworks operatives who are required to:

• Locate underground apparatus
• Set up equipment for streetworks operatives on the highway
• Excavate, backfill and reinstate the highway

Course Content

The streetworks operative course will cover the following units and practical skills:

• Location and avoidance of underground apparatus
• Signing, lighting and guarding units
• Excavation in the road/highway
• Reinstatement and compaction of backfill materials
• Reinstatement of sub-base and road-base in non-bituminous materials
• Reinstatement of hot and cold-lay bituminous materials
• Reinstatement of modular surfaces and concrete footways

Knowledge and Learning Outcomes

By the end of the training, those who have completed the NRSWA operatives course will be able to:

• Summarise the requirements of the NRSW Act
• Select appropriate PPE and safety equipment
• Perform the duties of each unit and/or qualification in line with current legislation and ACOP (Approved Code of Practice)
• After taking a streetworks operative course, you will be able to ensure a safe working environment for all

Course Requirements

 All visitors must report to reception on arrival and follow site safety rules:

• Streetworks operatives must bring and wear PPE for all practical training and testing
• Candidates must bring a signature and photographic identification as required

There are no catering facilities on site, but tea and coffee facilities are available.
