NPORS N209 Loading Shovel Plant Operator Training

By the end of this training, candidates will be able to answer questions on and demonstrate the following:

• Understand the industry, the associated dangers and their responsibilities as a plant operator.
• Have a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the specific machine in use.
• Locate and identify the major components of the loading shovel and explain their functions.
• Locate and identify key controls and explain their functions.
• Conduct all pre-operational checks in accordance with manufacturer and legislative requirements.
• Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for loading shovel operations.
• Perform all necessary safety checks at the work area.
• Prepare the loading shovel for use and operate it safely and efficiently.
• Apply environmental considerations in daily operations.
• Store and transport implements and attachments correctly.
• Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of loading and unloading procedures for machine transportation.
• Carry out all end-of-shift and shutdown procedures.

Course Ratios

Novice:

• 3 delegates, 1 machine — 5 days
• 2 delegates, 1 machine — 5 days
• 1 delegate, 1 machine — 3 days

Refresher:

• 3 delegates, 1 machine — 1 day

Experienced Worker Tests (no training):

• 6 delegates, 1 machine — 1 day

Course Requirements

• All visitors must report to reception on arrival and follow site safety rules at all times.
• No catering facilities are available — delegates must bring their own lunch. Tea and coffee facilities are provided.
• Candidates must bring and wear PPE on site for plant testing.
• Candidates must bring both signature and photographic identification as required for testing.

Assessment

To achieve the NPORS Operator Card, candidates must pass both the NPORS Theory and Practical Tests.

Refresher / Re-qualification Information

The NPORS Operator Card is valid for 3 years.
